At first we give up our bodies. We watch our stomachs grow and our features contort. But it is OK. We are making something. The anticipation is immense.
And then we give up our sleep and sense if time. We don’t know the difference between night and day and can’t believe it’s been only a minute when it feels like an hour or that it’s been an hour for something that should have taken a minute.
And then we give up ourselves. Because we believe and we love. Because we know in our souls that we are the supreme protectors and teachers. And that if we do not protect, teach, support and defend…. Well, no one else will.
And then we need to give up our children to the world so that they can learn from others and become the independent beings we have given up so much for them to become.
It is hard to imagine how difficult it is to have that space after so much has gone into creating it.
